On Monday Aug. 14, we will start our tryout process. The boys will need to be at the AHS tennis courts at 2:30 pm. We will meet the same time and place all week. 16 players will stay at Arapahoe and the rest of the boys will be sent to locations that are close to AHS (Powell, DeKoevend, Arapahoe Park, Homestad Farms II, Heritage Greens, etc.). Because the boys are at different locations, we are asking that they bring water with them. With the exception of a couple of singles matches, the players will be placed into groups of 4 where they will play a pre-determined number of games with each person in their group (most likely 4 on Monday). They will then return to AHS with their scores and balls. They will be done around 4:30 (some may be done earlier, or later, depending on how long some of the rotations take). The coaches will repeat this process and will use the scores to help determine teams and partners. Eventually, the boys will be partnered with another player (of similar ability) and will then play more traditional "challenge matches) to determine the line-up/ladder.
This year, the structure of the team will look a little different. We will most likely have "two levels" of junior varsity. One will practice at AHS and one will practice at DeKoevend (varsity will continue to practice at Powell MS). We are able to do this as we will have an additional junior varsity coach. We will introduce the newest addition to our coaching staff on Monday to the boys! With the two levels of JV, we have also added a handful of JV matches. Some of the matches will be played against "Varsity 2" squads and some will be played against nearby teams that have not traditionally been on our schedule. I am still finalizing one additional JV match and will send out the schedule when it is complete. Some of these matches will challenge our JV team and are against quality competition. I am very excited for what this can do for our JV this year and in the future.
